Comment on Training SpamAssassin with a LearnAsSpam IMAP folder by Manuel

I used a similar solution for the past years, but now I use to train my bayesian filters with the help of custom IMAP flags.

Since Mozilla Thunderbird uses the flags Junk and NonJunk for marking mail messages as spam or ham, a newly created perl script traverses over all user's mailboxes in order to watch out for such flagged messages. Those are then leaned either as spam or ham and even flagged as LearnedJunk and LearnedNonJunk.

Additionally you can create new tags in Thunderbird itself (called LearnedJunk and LearnedNonJunk) to colorize previously learned messages.

As soon a new mail arrives and Thunderbird marks it as junk automatically or you do so by hand, the mail will be learned as spam and colorized. If Thunderbird thinks a mail is spam and you disagree and unmark it, the mail will be re-learned as ham.

This posting is really old, but might be still of interest for some users, since there seems to be a huge lack of information concerning training spamassassin in a comfortable way. Some might also check out my german blog posting and the corresponding perl script here:

Dan, this is not regarding the content of ad sense but I saw you were looking at doing a quick presentation on Ad manager at the drupal meet-up. I am going out of town tomorrow and wont be able to make it but I had atleast one question. Do I need to install the Adsense Module in drupal before installing the ad manager module or can I just ad the Ad Manager module...

Cheers

I strongly agree: upgrades are extremely difficult operations (their complexity is NP complete at best), and one should not confront new users upfront with its intricacies.
Nonetheless, the problem of upgrades is real, and will only get worse with time, so it needs to be adressed scientifically. You may want to look at what the Mancoosi project is doing in this area (http://www.mancoosi.org).

Thanks for the code. I've already inserted it on my site http://www.wikiweb.org and for the most part it's up and runnning. But for some reason it doesn't show up on the main page, just content pages deeper in. Running MediaWiki: 1.4.9 Any ideas would be great. Reply to: unangst/gmail

Maybe there is a loophole. Obfuscated email addresses don't violate AdSense rules, so maybe we need a wikimedia markup that obfuscates generaly. <obfuscate>HGH</obfuscate> which can be rendered in multiple ways that are hard to scrape. Possibilities are a picture, letters mixed with invisible html markup, look-a-like fonts, and more.

Does anyone know how to add Adsense into the articles themselves, rather than the border? It works much better if it's in the content rather than off to the side.

There is a setting ($wgAllowUserJs)that is supposed to allow Javascript, but it doesn't seem to work.

Yup. Right. And the Google AdSense rules leave no loopholes at all. In other word, one may not use any software to process or filter AdSense ads (and the required AdSense code snippet, as provided by Google, may not be modifiend or altered anyway).

Of course you might choose to try things out, like having the web server request the AdSense ad, filter it, and then forward it to the browser. Of course, Google will see that all views come from the same IP address, so I guess that you might lose a substantial part of the pay-per-view compensation (pay-per-click would still work). Google's threat is that they might kick you out of AdSense, if they find out.

I once visited Morocco and had the best and worst experiences as a traveler. Unfortunately the bad experience is what sticks out the most in my memory. I was basically robbed in Tangiers (sp).

While this isn't entirely relevant to "utopian modernist" ideas, it does reflect a general, probably irrational sentiment of mistrust for such cultural/religious/political fundamentalism.

I'm sure I could have had a similar experience anywhere else of course.
